Mom's day out to Johor Bahru

We ( 2 good friends P and G and G's mom ) went on a one day shipping trip to Johor Bahru , Malaysia.

After planning for months to go to KUala Lumpur for a weekend , we decided on impulse to go to JB . G asked on Thursday , and we went to JB the next Sunday.

This is going to be a detailed rant, since We enjoyed every bit of my day out. We started at 7 in the morning , met at Sengkang MRT and we took a cab to Queen Street Bus Terminus . We looked for the yellow Malaysian cabs , and there were plenty. Offer was at 55$ for a cab to the city square mall . We took it , novice beginners!

It took us about an hour or so , to get past the Singapore immigration , the vehicle checks and the Malaysian immigration and to the mall. We arrived at about 9 , a so we had breakfast at a local coffee place . The dosa and the egg Prata turned out just awesome , the Prata wasn't anything like the ones we get in SG, new found respect for egg Prata !

We saw a temple , and decided to pop in . There were 2 weddings that day , we left after watching the first wedding . The style and the decor of the Malaysian Indian bride and groom is something of a sight !! Tres different !!

Next stop was City Square Mall , as expected it's a replica of the SG malls , prices almost on par with SG , what a waste !!

We got a cab and asked to be taken to the Danga Mall , the cab driver said it's not good , so we decided to skip , and tried the KSL City Expo . We ended up buying shoes at fairly reasonable prices, much lesser than SG. Shoes for less!!

The mall housed a Tesco hyper mart , where we stocked up on some household items . Do I need to mention it's groceries for less , of course la!!

Lunch came next , we had some light lunch  at KFC , did I say Light lunch ?

After lunch , we decided to do some serious shopping , we took a cab and asked to be taken to the largest Jusco . None of us had data roaming , to surf and check . So, we relied on the local taxi for information , not a wise decision at all . We were shown to the Permas Jaya Jusco .

We arrived at the Aeon mall at Permas Jaya , and we were plainly confused , why it said Aeon and not Jusco . Anyways , we shopped there for clothes and household items . After going around and around , and gathering all that we liked , it was time to make final selections . That's when we discovered , the 70% off sale !!

Back again to the sections where they were running those sales , we helped one another choose and buy . It was a fun day shopping and talking and making fun of each other .

We took a cab from there to Larkin Bus Terminus taxi stand . There were absolutely no taxis , only fellows advertising for taxis for 20$ per head or 80$ per cab . If we were ready to pay 80$ , then we could board a can right then . If else , we keep waiting in a queue that never moved . We decided to take the cab at 80$ , plainly disappointed to be tricked. Long long journey which took about 2 hours and we finally arrived at Bugis . From Bugis , we took another can to get home . Came home to a quiet home ,all in bed and sleeping peacefully.

What a day it had been .

All about Aura

AuraFashionLine.com - its a platform to buy Indian Wear online , especially targeting the APAC . More at www.Facebook.com/AuraFashionLine

It's been my little baby all this while , every spare moment I get , I work on it.

I walk to the school to drop or pick up the kids ,  a spare few minutes there , I work .

While I wait for the cooking to be completed , I work .

While I put my kids to sleep after their story time and night prayers , I work .

While am in the loo too ...

The time is all mine , when both my kids are in school , precious 1.5 hours indeed .

It's kept me busy, there are so many ideas that I would like to implement , but so little time. How I wish I could get another 4 hours all to myself.  I've stopped working late nights , having encountered bad reviews of my health, and as my friend put it "you look like a patient ". Am guesting she meant I look unhealthy, and nothing otherwise.

I've enjoyed every bit of it , there has been many downs and very few Ups, and many a times I had confided in the same friend that I regret getting into this. But, those negative feelings lasted only for a day or so , and then I swing back to my own happy self.

It's a short journey but quite a learning curve . Building up my own website , building a client base , running a business, it's a challenging project. Have only my clients and the never ending support of my mom and dad to thank for . Of course , my better half  and my good friend , S .

Wish me more luck!!

To be or not to be...

I'm going through a phase and am calling it "To Be or Not To Be". Don't ask me what , Don't ask me why, Don't ask me if I'm out of my mind.

I don't know to decide , and it makes it all the more difficult to decide , and decide I must as early as possible.

Good luck to me !!

Fever management

It's time for another fever management session. Hazel is down with fever , and I have this little sheet of information from KK Hospital , SG, which is my bible when it comes to temperature control.

I tend to hear a lot of advice on how to do it the right way , and finally a piece of paper that tells me exactly how!!

Looks like the little one has got to the paper before I could hide it. 😊

Drawing with grids

This memory from long long back has suddenly come back to haunt me , for reasons unexplainable .

I was in fourth / fifth standard , and as part of holiday homework an art work was to prepared on a piece of chart . I asked my father to draw an animal on it , so I could do my art work with threads and shiny small things and other odd things . My father refused to draw , instead he showed me how to draw using grids . I found a picture of a camel in that week's Saturday's Young World paper. (Of course , I read each week's Young World end to end ).

He drew a grid over the picture of the camel , and he drew a grid on the piece of  chart , just that the grid on the chart was measured to scale and the squares larger, something like the picture attached.  All I had to do was start from one point , go from square to square, copying it from the original picture .  It was mostly like joining the dots, focussing on one square at a time. At the end of it, I had successfully drawn a much bigger camel . He made me draw the camel's outline with a marker , and erased off all the grid lines.

The Camel looked nice and neat , and I did some art work on it with golden threads and little buttons borrowed from my mother's precious collection . I took it to school feeling very proud of myself , and my teacher asked me over and over again , if I drew it all by myself. I tried explaining my best about how my Dad drew squares on the chart and I copied the picture square by square. I made no sense to her , and she gave me a doubtful look. All said and done , the camel looked glorious , thanks to my Dad.

Only years later, did I realize what a simple trick it was , and only an engineer Dad would think of it!!

My daddy rocks!!

Curly girl

I have been struggling with my curly hair ever since my birth ( Umm, not exactly, but more like it)

I try straightening / rebonding whenever the mood strikes , and within 4 months , the curls are back with even more vigour.

Tried a very short hairstyle , and made quite a few people unhappy with the new look ( grumpy !!)

There isn't a trick in the world of home remedies that I haven't tried on my hair , nothing works !!

I quit ! I quit trying to smoothen the curls , I let it be . I sport a pony tail to keep my curls in control , and on odd days when I feel like dressing up, I let them loose. Although , it looks messy , I stopped worrying. It took me 30 years of my life to realize am a curly girl and that's the way it's got to be !!

One more hack for curly hair I read recently, if any of you curly girls are interested .... Give it a try and let me know if it did work. :)

Wild wild wet

The four of us , my hubby darling the kids and I , went on an unplanned trip to this lovely little water theme park.

The older kid had much fun in the water with her new found confidence in water.
Lazy Pool , children's play area, wave pool , jacuzzi waterfall are some of the ones we tried. We stayed clear of a the fun slide rides , since the yours werent old enough. The younger is still a crying mess , overwhelmed with the water quite easily.
It took her a good while to get accustomed , and even after played a cautious play never leaving my side.

Altogether , a fun day. They are growing up real fast , at this rate , I would  make peace with my current full time mom role pretty soon. Well, that's another post!!
